Soundtrack
Supervision, Voice Actor Recording, Music and Effects tracks
preservation or reconstruction.
Soundtrack from script to
post - for promos, trailers, demos and pilots. The fact is,
even with a trailer or just a demo sell your series, it
sells better with sound. Programming sales is a highly
competitive market. Any producer who thinks he or she is going
to head into a pitch meeting and impress the buyer with no more
than an animatic, powerpoint presentation and a talk-through of
a storyboard will face a rude awakening when realizing just how
much reality is out there in competing demos, trailers and
pilots - all reflecting more financial commitment behind a property
- and nothing succeeds like a buyer wanting to follow a
property that looks and sounds like a well-hedged financed
bet. Research has shown that even with still graphics, sound
conveys the first theater of the mind that audiences are awaiting in
the aural sense - sound conveys the story that an audience is
waiting to hear, just 2 frames ahead of the visual.
Even if you're at the beginning stage in
your marketing and making a pilot or demo for your program,
bring it to KMI for the soundtrack work and watch the
bang! of our audio production hit 'em where it
counts. Between the ears! ... in the wallet!
When does it make
sense to dub?
- Only when the finished
media "art form" is appropriate or acceptable for the media window
and country of exhibition.
- Only when the style of
the dubbing should be controlled and yet match the
requirements and expectancy of the international country's
production style. Did you know that in India, the voice
talent as dubber of any song in a motion picture is not the one
doing the voice over on script? Yet, the
vocalist is always matched to the voice
talent doing the spoken script, always supply
the others' vocal counterpart, and the two enjoy
matched promotion as celebrities, regardless of the
film. In other countries, five voice actors doing multiples
is fine; in others, certain characters and roles "must" be
done in specific vocal ranges to reflect the
production styles for actors in those genres.
- In the US, it makes
sense to dub in traditional US standards - in many
cases, its enough to create a contemporary US based market
impression to facilitate a buy of international content readied
for the US market - OR - present an image to
prospective international broadcasters or co-production
partners that a program is positioned as a US
originating or leveraged property, ready for international
acquisition, buy-in or finance.
- Only when the program
license fees earn more for dubbed picture delivered than
undubbed, and costs still yield more than enough
profit.
